The main goal is to produce high-quality, fertile eggs and healthy offspring. Achieving this ensures strong, fast-growing fish with good survival rates in later stages. Keeping your broodstock healthy and productive involves quality feeding and clean, oxygen rich water.

Use the right male/female ratio at optimal stocking density

You need enough broodstock for a continuous supply of good-quality eggs. The number of broodstock required depends on the breeding programs. After spawning, broodstock fish are either sacrificed or need to recover. Maintain staggered spawning phases to ensure reliable production. The correct male: female ratio (varies by species) should also be maintained.

Use high quality broodstock feeds

High-quality broodstock feeds ensure breeder fish receive nutrients needed for healthy offspring. These specialized diets support nutrient-rich eggs, vital for fry relying on yolk sacs in early life. Proper feed selection improves fecundity, hatch rates, and fry survival. Provide broodstock diets with high-quality protein to support optimal egg production and overall breeding success.

Minimize stress during handling

Minimize stress during handling to support natural spawning behavior, as excessive stress can hinder reproduction. Limit transport and handling where possible. Also maintain optimal water quality (pH, TAN, oxygen) within recommended ranges. Provide at least three weeks of rest between spawning to ensure better outcomes.
